Have you looked at Android tablets? You could also look at second hand iPads, but if your on a budget the iPad is probably going to be well over. You can get cheap (and some powerful) Android tablets which would be good spec. I'll move this to Android for you if you want (the lads there will know the good from the bad)

Yeah that'd be fantastic! Still getting used to where to be posting with all the different forums lol!

I can well afford an iPad but I don't think it's worth spending that much money if there's something out there that does the same thing for less!

The refurbished section of the apple store is not a bad place to look for a bargain, especially for older model ipads.

I've moved the thread to the Android forum for you. There are many great android tablets for less than the ipad price, many that have USB ports, SD card expandability etc. The lads here can advise anyway,

my only issue with getting a tablet is typing... that would be the only thing that would put me off.. i reckon id have to get a netbook also for that i guess if in was and i dont wanna splash out on both caus i know id want fairly top end both if i was getting them
i like the combined things which connect to keyboards or that have slide out ones. seems a good idea. asus have a few, and lenovo are bringing out some also but theyre expensive enough...
there was a topic here fairly recently with a good breakdown of different ones maybe 3 weeks back. try a search or checkj back a few pages

Look for an ASUS Transformer Pad 300, I'm using a Transformer Prime & love it. TBH, I don't use the keyboard for too much typing, but the extended battery life is a savior sometimes as is the USB...

What about a BlackBerry PlayBook. They have great specs and were keenly priced recently.

What do you want a tablet for?

Unless you're going to tweak it to run droid out of the box forget it. Blackberry OS is dead and buried.

A lot of android apps are on the playbook appstore already. Others can be sideloaded. I'm not sure what apps you want but I feel I'm missing nothing. The rumours of it's demise are a little premature too.

The new browser for the device is also top of the pile on http://www.html5test.com

Not really. Its had to have a massive price cut from not selling, hasnt caught on with much of an audience and RIM are all but broke

RIM have 70million odd subscribers world wide and they've no debt. Granted they were very slow moving with the times but in terms of their demise I still stand by my point that it's premature. Apple were considerably worse off until Microsoft bailed them out and every one thought they were dead too. Now look at them.

Sounds like iSheep talk. The Playbook OS is currently the best OS when it comes to Multitasking, Great Email client and tonnes of great games. The Playbook has the best browser, the best implementation of flash support. It is also going to be updated to BB10 the fall. For the money you can not buy a better tablet.

Broke? Do you read the news or just spread rumors? RIM is transitioning to a brand new OS BB10 this year, so they have not released a new phone in a while. Sales are down because of this. RIM currently has $2.1 billion in cash on hand. This will be the fist quarter that the company has ever had a loss. They are not all but broke.

A good while ago my mate lent me the play book to put some android apps/sideloading.

    OP

i bit the bullet and bought an iPad 3 and love it!.

I'm an Android man myself but just thought the apps for android tablets useless. A Friend has one and every time is use it i find it very sluggish and can only use it for an hour max before i get too annoyed and put it down.

For those who are recommending the Black Berry OS, i'd stay well away from it. The company is quickly dying. All their customers have moved to iOS and Android

Price cuts aside. Sales are still sales.
The research firm found that Apple’s iPad continued to dominate the market...The research firm found that only two manufacturers saw shipments increase in the first quarter over the same period a year earlier: Research In Motion, which saw shipments of its PlayBook tablet grow 233%...
