Thailand on Honeymoon

    Hi,

My fiance and I are heading to Thailand later this year on HM and we have found it all a little overwhelming when it comes to picking places to stay. We have checked all the usual sites for info but we still don't know where to stay.

We are going to Bangkok, Koh Tao and Koh Samui. We want somewhere quiet and romantic with white sand and blue waters but towns and nitelife not too far away either, is this too much to ask? Can anyone please recommend Hotels in these places that tick most, if not all, our wants?

Thanks, appreciate any help at all.

Having been to Thailand twice both in 2011 and again this year, as you are going on your Honeymoon you will probably be shelling out so will have no probs getting really nice accommodation. The west coast of Ko Samui is much quieter than the eastern coast and Chaweng is the centre of activity with bars and clubs, Lamai is both quieter and smaller and has a seedier element to it. Both resorts are heavily commercialized so don't expect some idyllic place with an entire beach to practically yourself although such private retreats are probably there for those with deep enough pockets.

Bangkok is class but full of tourist traps so do take care especially if it is your first time tot the country. Hotel accommodation is no problem there and you will find brilliant hotel rooms in 5 star luxury for a fraction of similar Irish prices.

Ko Phanghan has the famous full moon party although I've never been to it, but it is more backpacker oriented and not real honeymoon material. From my travels last year in Ko Samui many backpackers I met said Ko Phanghan was much nicer, Ko Tao is the quietest and would be probably quite good for honeymoon and Ko Phanghan during the time of the month furthest away from the full moon party. Best bet is to fly down to Samui or else Surat thani on the mainland from Bangkok.

This is a good vid of what to expect. (not mine)

you probably won't get the romantic white sands/blue waters in Bangkok, but other boardsies have recommended Anatara Sathorn and Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok. Friends that travelled on a budget recommended Rambuttri Village Inn as well.
Davenport on Hook Travel posted also always recommends Shangri La, so if you want somewhere more luxurious that's probably your best bet. There are more suggestions in the link marvsins posted.

Another boardsie sent me list of hotels they stayed on the islands.
Sareeraya Villas and Suites and Silavadee Pool Spa Resort on Koh Samui.
And Haadtien Beach Resort and The Rocks Hotel on Ko Tao.

Best of luck with your trip. Can't wait til we go....

I'm here in Thailand at the moment and myself and my other half wanted a chilled out romantic enough holiday. I most definitely think you should spend a few days on phi phi island and also a night or two in Railay.

You can fly from Bangkok to krabi and get a boat to Railay and then another boat to phi phi island. I'm in Samui now staying in Chaweng until Friday. Chaweng just reminds me of any other Spanish costa del sol place, we are going to stay in Bo Phut in fishermans village tomorrow.

One thing is everything is so cheap here that you can afford to splash out on better Accomodation.

Whereabouts did you stay on Phi Phi? That's where I was thinking of going at first but many had said it was boring or too expensive. I looked into the beach-front bungalows and they were >200 a night! :(

We spent our honeymoon in Thailand.

For the luxury stuff we stayed in the Anantara resort in Northern Thailand, which was amazing without fail, but it's not on the coast so that might rule it out for you. We spent one night in the Anantara resort in Koh Samui also, which was fabulous too and right on the beach, but that was just a stayover en route to Koh Tao. There's another Anatara on Hua Hin too IIRC.

We spent ten days in Koh Tao also. It's a tiny place and pretty much the only thing to do there is Scuba Diving, which was fine for us as that was why we were there. We stayed in the basic accommodation that the dive school offered so I don't even know if there is luxury accommodation available on the island. I imagine it is a lot quieter than the likes of Pee Pee or Samui, so if there is nice digs there then it might be a good option if all you wanna do is chill out...

We stayed a few nights in Bangkok also, but for the life of me I can't remember where we stayed!

    Hi,

We went to Bankok (3 nights) and Koh Samui (10 nights) for honeymoon.

We stayed at the  Shangri La in Bankok, and I'd highly recommend it. They knew we were on honeymoon and gave us an option to pay a little extra to have access to the horizon club lounge - which I'd highly recommend (free drinks and nibbles each evening while you watch the sun set while looking out over the city and I think they had afternoon tea aswell).

In Koh Samui we stayed at the Tongsai Bay Hotel. It was a a short (very cheap!), taxi ride from Chaweng - but again we were very happy because we had the calm and quiet of the resort - but the option to go to Chaweng whenever we felt like it. The hotel also has it's own private beach - only downside was it was a pebble beach, not sand.

Hope you have a lovely time wherever you stay!

Boom! Thank you DG, you have refreshed my memory...

Tha Shangri La is where we stayed also! Excellent hotel, lovely outdoor breakfast area beside the river, great food, highly recommended!

It's definitely a little more chilled out. I stayed there for 5 days. Look up Mama beach Resort. I probably won't spend longer than 5 days there as you might get bored after that but it was brilliant. We also did the camping on Maya Bay which I also highly recommend.

Woke up to not a soul at 5am watching the sunlight move across the beach. At night the moon then gives the place a whole silver glow.
