    Hi,

Myself and my gf are looking at heading towards Thailand for 3/4 weeks this late July and into August. I've been before but it was 5 years ago and tbh I can't remember too much

Anyway, what I'm trying to get info on from people who have been more recently is:

what kind of money would we be looking at needing for the two of us combined to travel from Bangkok down to the Islands, the usual, Kho Phangan, Kho Lak, Krabi, Phuket, Phi Phi etc.....

Bare in mind that I'm not looking to stay in luxury accomodation(nor dumps for that matter) and I know from websites that nice places can be found for between 700-1000 Baht per night or less.

Not sure if the prices have increased much in the 5 years, although I know you get less Baht for the Euro as it was 5 years ago. I also know that the flights cost a fortune , circa €1000

Thanks in advance for any help,
    Tom :)

4-5 Years ago was a great time for the exchange rate I think, with over 50 Baht/Euro.

I'm going with a group this summer, mid June to mid July. Flights were under €700 with Swiss, via Zurich if you haven't booked yet. You could be lucky with Etihad or Emirates for around the same if your dates are right.

I have a budget of about €50 per day, which I hope will be fine.

    Thanks Kevin,

For some reason the flights are way higher in July and August, i'm using momondo as a search engine and find them good, best prices I've found.

we were thinking €100 a day between us, hopefully less

the opposite way, DUB-BKK, KL-DUB is about €1100:eek:

Was living in Thaland for 3 months 2010... I had a great time with €30/40 a day(alone), If you and G/f eat the thai restaurant instead of western restaurant, it will save you a €10 for both of you...Have a good trip... Etihad Airways is excellent airlines. My favorite. I am flying out on 5th September for 6 weeks for €685. I nearly booked €635 but found out the waiting at Abu Dahbi is 7 hours.

    Hi Guys,

Just wondering a small bit of quick info regarding cash in Thailand/Malaysia if anyone knows. Is it best to just take money out with Maestro card or load visa and use that?

Also, have tried contacting company with regards to ferry from Langkawi to Ko Lanta but cant get a reply. Does anybody know if the ferry runs at this time of the season or will i have to go back onto land and bus it?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Any more valuable general information would be greatly appreciated !

Preloading your Visa is a better bet. I wrote a piece here last year about it. Enjoy your trip, I was in Thailand in 2011 and in both Malaysia and Thailand this past April, fab places, If I had the funds I'd move over to Thailand for 6 months of the year.
