answering a question I have had for a long time is in the new scientist this week:

    http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21428662.200-trees-of-green.html

A 20-metre pine tree with a trunk 20 centimetres across would yield about 45,000 A4 sheets (about 90 reams).

This assumes that the density for wood is about 600 kilograms per cubic metre and that 50 per cent of the pulp is lost once the water and lignin is removed.

It also assumes that the "density" of the required paper is 70 grams per square metre. An A4 sheet is 210 millimetres by 297 millimetres; each sheet therefore has a mass of 4.4 grams (70 grams × 0.210 metres × 0.297 metres).

However only a third of paper comes from virgin wood, a third from wood chips or scraps and the final third from recycled paper.

Also chemicakl pulping reduces the yield available for making paper.

So now I know about 4.25 reams to the 20cm pine meter :D
