Irish Sceal - Help!

    So I'm doing the Irish higher level exam in a few days and for the Sceal in paper 1, our class basically just learnt off 2 essays about timpistes (our teacher said don't bother doing the Aiste, Alt or Diospoireacht parts of that question). The problem for me is that I'm horrible at Irish and as I was flicking back through the exam papers I realized that for most of the Sceals, I couldn't even understand the questions! I looked at the marking scheme and it says "Gaelige - 40 marks, Content - 10 marks", so even if the story that I write has absolutely nothing to do with the question, am I still marked out of 40?

    I know I should be doing ordinary Irish, but my teacher didn't let me because I fluked the mocks and got 42%, while most people failed. Please help because if I can't answer this question (it's worth the most marks on the exam) I'm most likely going to fail! :(

    Hello! :) Well if you're exam was the left bar code then 42 percent was fantastic! That was an extremely difficult pre!

    First of all, do not stress. You're sceal will most probably be marked out of forty. If you write about absolutely something bonkers there's no way they'll give you zero and I'll tell you why!!

    The second part of the timpiste is ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS 'Dean cur sios ar eachtra a tharla...' This means describe something that happened and it often says when you were at a match, walking home etc. So if you write about some sort of an event you WILL get about 1 or 2 out of 10 for the abhar. It shouldn't be too difficult"

    Remember 'cluiche' is a game. 'I gcoill' is in the woods . 'thar saile' means abroad 'laethanta saoire' means holidays. It shouldn't be too difficult I mean last years was SO easy it was something like dean cur sios ar eathra a tharla nuair a bhi tu ag imirt an cluiche.

    With your 2 timpistes you'll do just fine! Do not stress! If you know your two timpistes you'll be grand - Tus maith leath na hoibre!

    Hope I've helped in the slightest!

    I haven't learned any scéal off (and I'm terrible at irish) I got 38% the mock (the top left bar code) and I'm ****ting myself.

    Given that last years was a an event at a match, and I think the year before was something on halloween :confused:

    Would I be safe to learn a story that happened when I was on holidays??
    I was thinking of learning one about going to either the Euro2012 or the Olympics, so then I'm covered for;
    -abroad
    -on holiday
    -Euros/olympics.

    But will I have enough time to learn it, it's on thursday!!

    You should be fine learning vocab for a timpiste, but a word of warning, if you dont continue from the opening, as in that it follows on logically from it, you will not get many, if any marks. You do not get marked out of 40 if you write a completely irrelevant story, the mark out of 40 and the mark out of 10 are considered together. For example, if you get 20 out of 40 for your story you will get 5 out of 10 for content.
