I have a Toshiba A200 that will not charge battery. I can charge battery in other laptop. Then when i start laptop it says plugged in and charging but instead of going up the charge is going down. I have updated the bios and and nearly every other suggestion on the internet. anyone here have any other ideas as to what the problem could be.

I would guess that your ac jack inside your laptop is faulty. It's one of the most common issues for laptops with charging problems. The jack becomes unseated or disconnected from the motherboard.

have a look at the connector pins that the battery will sit into. look for pins that may look bent or corroded. if they look dirty lightly scrap them with something metal, unplug and power off first.

Have a look at the bios again, especially the configuration settings on the starting pages, look in particular for a tick box or 'yes/no' settings and go through every page carefully until your happy everything is good.

now have a go at the following: work through it very slowly as its important that the sequence is maintained.

"First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.

Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here. When the uninstall is complete, shut the PC down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shutdown the PC again. Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook to see if this has helped the issue at all."

The DC is the next to investigate they are cheap to buy but you will want to be comfortable with opening the laptop up completely to put it in

Thanks all for the replies. Its is definitely not the dc jack i have changed that and still have the same problem. There is no corrosion on the pins for the battery and the laptop will not start without battery in it so i guess it must be the motherboard.

This happened to me, but luckily my friend had a similar laptop (and power cable).

It could be the transformer of your cable. WHen I bought a new one, it started charging again. Just saying, it might not be the jack.

What battery usage setting do have it on.

I think right click on the battery icon bottom right of the screen to check.
    Maybe turn it down.
That has worked for me but slows performance when just running of the battery.
