Considering switching into 2nd year CSSE. Just looking for people who has done it's impressions of it. Seems a fairly demanding course! Would there be a huge amount of out of class work required?

I completed the course a couple of years ago.. yes it is demanding but if you put the work in it is very doable work and is rewarding.

I would suggest talking to the CSSE course coordinator who will be able to advise you on the modules you would need to take.

Thanks for your reply but would the course co-coordinator be available during the summer?
Is it mostly programming or more theory based and is the course dominated by maths?

Generally the CS lecturers are about during the summer.

I think one thing you'll need to do is weigh up how important moving to CSSE is. I tried to do the same after first year, but they told me that I needed to have done maths in first year. So I kept doing my BA in Computer Science & Philosophy, and to be honest I'm glad I didn't do an extra year because it allowed me to move into work a year earlier.

Also having a BA served me no disadvantage in comparison to having a BSc. It's something to think about.

The course coordinator for CSSE is Dr. Charles Markham

He is usually around for the summer, drop him an email.
