    Hi,

Anyone experience difficulties today with digital signal from Castlebar.

couple of people near me had problems and then my mam rang saying theirs was funny too.

Anyone able to shed any light on it, seemed to sort itself out around 6

    Thanks

I noticed the radio stations from Truskmore intermittently going blank for 5-10 mins all week.

At one stage, a strong signal from a foreign station would give extremely clear sound (chat at the time) with Today FM no longer to be heard at all. RDS came through and all.

That RDS indicates that it's Swedish Radio's 3rd Channel/Program 3. The only transmitter broadcasting P3 on 100.0 is at Skellefteå in the north east of the Sweden, with an ERP of 60kW. Reception was almost certain to be Sporadic-E, quite common at this time of year.

As for DTT from Castlebar, it's co-channel with BBC1 analogue from Brougher Mountain, it's possible tropospheric enhancement from recent weather we've had could affect it.

It is in theory still a relay site although its power output on UHF analouge is as high as some main TX sites and (given the number of microwave dishes at the site) I daresay it wouldnt take much to upgrade it like they did with Spur Hill dowen in Cork.

Couple of momentary breaks in transmission in DTT from C'bar at around 4.40pm then there was roughly a 30 second break. Managed to check a second TV in the house (on a separate aerial to the first TV) before it came back and there was no signal on it either.

Signal is normally 100% (strength and quality) with line of sight to the C'bar mast.
