I last gave up on Fedora in 12 or 13 due to constant permission issues. recently tried 16 but when I got to stage 4 of the hasse steps to install VLC, I gave up again. Then I heard 17 was out and as I had 16 on the HDD already I did the preupgrade thing, only to find out afterwards that its not so easy when multibooting and Fedora grub is not in MBR.

    More major hassles.Gave up again.
If its on a mag disk I might try it again but sabayon 9 is working fine as new main distro so not too pushed.

The preupgrade is still experimental so I dont recommend it.
but when I got to stage 4 of the hasse steps to install VLC

    What do you mean?

To install vlc just do(as root):
    #> rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-rawhide.noarch.rpm
    #> yum install vlc

Fedora 17 is my main distro of choice these days. It's well polished, I'm liking gnome 3

very impressed with the KDE spin, but NetworkManager still has a unfixed long running bug for me, where it cannot connect to my wifi network if Im not broadcasting my ssid, I need to make it visible ..connect..then hide it again, then cross my finger's it'll connect, which is 50/50

Very impressed with it. Gnome3 has come on in leaps and bounds since I last used it. Very slick.
