Not a bad price for a 40" hd tv,plus it's saorview compatible so ye can watch Euro 2012 in lovely HD on RTE 2.

Mightn't be the same spec as a Samsung Smart TV but hard to argue with the price, they also have tv stands & wall brackets in stock the same day.

i have one of the older 720p 40" lcd tevion models about 6-7 years now and it's still going strong. very happy with the buy and i'd happily have another one to upgrade to 1080p now if we had the spare cash. :)

yup, and aldi have a great reputation when it comes to warranty replacements, you really can't go wrong for the money on that one. :)

The Aldi website does not provide the full specs of the t.v so here is a site for people who are interested.

    http://www.electrical-deals.co.uk/emotion-x4069g-40-full-hd-lcd-tv-with-freeview-and-usb-record.html

And some people who have bought it and reviewed it. Beware, these may be people who have limited knowledge in television specifications (I mean that in the nicest way possible), so their views may distort the actual quality of the set.

    http://reviews.sainsburys.co.uk/2678-en_gb/119626326/reviews.htm

Do be aware of the details, such as contrast ratio, refresh rate etc as these factor into the overall quality of the image displayed.

This is being aimed at the football fan market, but the refresh rate of the set is only 50hz. If you are going to be watching fast sports involving rapid movement, 50hz is just about acceptable. Aiming for 100hz is better, as the image is refreshed quicker and appears sharper and more fluid.

The links below are really handy, 5 minute reads to get yourself up to speed on the details of the difference between what appears to be decent value to what is a world beater of a television.

Hard to get a decent 100hz TV for less than 800 though. Hard to know what is a 100hz TV considering the sneaky why they describe them.

Problem with this offer is they are all likely to be gone 5 mins after the door opens.

    Cheers for the links, Thefirestarter.

That's still not bad for €349 with the security of a three-year warranty. I wonder what the picture quality is like. One way to find out, I guess...

A horrible TV - you'd be much better off getting a smaller panel with better specs (which wouldn't be hard) for the same price.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,379 ✭✭✭peckerhead

Some further discussion here from a year ago. I might just try for one anyway, as I've a massive room to buy a set for and a 40" Saorview-ready with USB function is exactly what I need. I don't watch much sports and could live with the lower refresh rate.

If the picture quality is really rubbish (or I get one with that idle hum some have mentioned) I can always bring it back for a hassle-free refund.

That's a LCD, although I would go with and LED for greater contrast and energy saving. An extra 40 quid is not much, I'm sure if you shopped around a bit more than I did when I did a quick search you would find it cheaper.

That doesn't have saorview and has a 2 year warrant compared to Aldiss 3 year one, why would you even bother complaining about this tv, it's a great price for what it is

I'm not complaining as such, just letting people know that Aldi's option is not always the best. Its a bargain for what it is, a cheap HD tv. But that does not mean it can not be compared to a better spec tv for a similar price just to let prospective buyers know that for better quality it isn't that much more.

Also ,I did not know Saorview was such a deal breaker for some people, alot of people have digital subscriptions or watch HD content through other mediums.

It was just a quick search, I'm sure if you dug a little deeper you would find a better price for this model or perhaps richersounds.ie could even do you a favor with their good reputation on here.

Thats not bad, but still not same thing. pixmania doesn't have the greatest rep here either.

I also got a 40" set from Aldi about the same time as vibe, to say I was disappointed is an understatement,as there was a stuck pixel, permanently blue half way up on the screen. I contacted the helpline, requesting a replacement or refund, I was told that it was within specification, unless there were 3 or more stuck/dead pixels, they would not replace or refund. The set was €1399 at the time. As for the refresh rate, while watching football,a trail is visible behind the ball. My advice, buy from a reputable source!

I've never seen Aldi sell anything for €1399, let alone a TV. Are you sure that's where you bought it?

Also, and in any case, there's a quibble-free refund for the first 30 days — you don't need any reason to return it.

Yes,it definitely was Aldi, and it was €1399, simalar size sets were €2000 + at the time, store wouldn't accept it and said to contact Tevion helpline and it was brought back to store within a few days.

i was ready to agree with you until i managed to dig up this old thread started by some devilishly handsome looking devil in oct. 07. :)

the other thread was dragged up from last year when a similar telly was twice the price, so I'm here to put things right for the 2 or 3 people in the country who didn't pick up one of these bad boys in 06. :)

    € 849.99 (€837.99 + €12 Producer Recycling Fund)
so i guess it was the year before i got mine.

i'm still surprised they wouldn't give you a refund though, maybe that far back they weren't so quibble free about their refunds.

Question: Is there any point having >50hz tvs when broadcasts are 50hz? (assuming you're using it to watch tv only).

That pixel thing is the same with any manufacturer/shop, not just Tevion/Aldi.
You could get a stuck pixel in an new iPad and Apple wouldn't take it back.

€399 for the same tv in DID Electrical, when people are buying large screen tv's for this price they don't really worry about the specs as it's the price of them that's the deciding factor.

That's true, it could, but you can't ask for the set to be demonstrated in Aldi's store, unlike Curry's or Richersouds, brother bought a set in their store and asked to see it working before payment, thus ensuring there was no pixel problem.
