It's the "corduff" course used in the Swords league. approx 11-12 miles long with a good climb up towards Nags head from the old N1. 6 laps for the A1/2's afaik and 3-4 i think for the A3/4's (Vets with A1 licences have to ride the A1 races btw ;)).

The McNally Joinery Swords CC are well and truly organised for the Swords Grand Prix this Sunday. Ballyboughal will be the nerve point for the competitors who will tackle a sports friendly course with everything from fast roads to a bit of climbing which will suit many of the hopefuls.

Sign on from 10-11.30 at Ballyboughal GAA club with race start at 12noon. The circuit is the Corduff circuit which is a 19.3km circuit starting outside the GAA club and finishing at the top of the Naggs Head climb. The organisers are anticipating good weather for the promotion.

    Yes.

Hopeful you can race, you mean. By the sounds of things on the marshalling front, there may have to be a punch-up in the car park among the Swords riders to decide who gets on their bike and who gets the high vis and flag!

I see a fair bit of course recce-ing there on Strava from the other night... the locals looking to stamp their authority on this? 41+kph average on a course with a hill is rather tasty.

No, just a club league race - check out the Swords League thread for more details

Thanks to all riders who arrived today for the Swords GP. Tough race in tough conditions and a class winner in the combined race. A3's and A4 welcome again on Wednesday night. 64k handicapped with a flat finish......

Congrats to Mr Grieves on continuing his 100% winning record in open races. Now hup to A3 so I can follow your wheel! :D If today was over 50km, you should get on to CI, or just sign up for a one-day A3 licence when you next feel like it.

Kudos also to capnsantini on a placing. Looking forward to race reports lads!

it was all Mr. Grieves in the A4. He set a blistering pace the first time up the hill. I almost exploded trying to keep up, thinking I must be having a bad day to be hurting so much on the first lap. I started laughing when the guy next to me at the top asked if we had a gap (I told him we'd have to work harder than that to get a gap) and was shocked to move back a few places a realize there was no one behind me. 9 of us in the first lap and down to 8 after the second time up the hill. We couldn't shake anyone in the middle laps so just concentrated on keeping everyone motivated and taking their turns until the last climb. We had a motorcycle come up at one point and tell us we had a 4 minute gap so that took some of the stress out. Once we hit the roundabout before the last climb, Mr. Grieves shot off the front (the only real attack we'd see all race) and no one had anticipated enough to follow straight away or believed he was going to take it to the line like he did (I knew he had it in him). From that point it was a race for 2nd through 5th, with me hanging on for dear life to 6th and having just enough to burn off the extra 2 from the break for a placing. Delighted for the winner, great stuff when the best and strongest man wins. Great fun all day, too bad there weren't 8 places as it was a good strong break and everyone was doing their bit (with a little cajoling from time to time) and deserved something. Well done to Swords for a great race, safe, on time, excellent circuit, and top notch sweets at the finish.

9 of us in the first lap

I was marshalling on the turn onto the old N1 and couldn't believe there was only 9 in the lead group the second time you went past. I was thinking you were making a hard race for yourselves when you could have just as easily burnt off the rest later in the race but now I see that Mr. Grieves was probably just soft pedalling and that was enough to blow the thing apart. I had to head off as soon as the last rider came by as I was heading to Croker so didn't get the results. Did Adam from Swords get a place in his first A4 race - he was in the lead group?

Presume the An Post rider won the A1/A2/A3 race (who was he?).

Thanks Swords for a very well-run race, and as has been noted, the scran at the end was A1.

The crap bit in it was me, as my legs refused to work the very first time up the drag. So missed the split, and that was it, game over. Our 'second bunch' attempted to work together a bit, but it was dreadful, no consistency whatsoever. I'm glad at least that Mr Grieves' pace at the top was considered 'blistering', makes me feel a bit better. A fair few were shelled out the back completely the first time up. Well done to the placers for hanging on.

Happy to see that Ronan McL got the A1 win, hopefully that took a bit of the sting out of his heroic/tragic Ras stage.

First A4 race back since my exams so i wasn't expecting much, especially after a near disastrous attempt at the same circuit in the club league on Wednesday but because I knew the circuit i moved up just coming into the climb after which i found myself in the break(for the first time).
Big thanks to capnsantini in keeping me motivated cause I was on the rivet all day. Nearly went out the back door on the second climb but thankfully held on all the way for fifth(!!)

Very well run race Swords CC

    Which fella took the win?

none of them, he's about 30m up the road from looking at the pics on cycling ireland, I think the swords guy Adam got 2nd from that sprint, again looking at same photos.

Don't think you can race without a ci licence.

Ya I vaguely remember reading there's no 1 day licenses available anymore. How come you didn't race today?

Cos it was pissing rain and crazy windy and I've got the Milan San Remo next Sunday and I didn't fancy the risk of crashing in those conditions and missing out!

Yeah they got my name wrong too :(

Thanks to the organisers for a great race in miserable weather - good marshalling on the dodgy gravelly corner and great sambos after.

As capnsantini says, the break didn't really come from an attack, there were just enough of us riding hard up the hill the first time to drop much of the bunch. We then worked very hard organised by capnsantni and built up a big lead. In the club league I always thought of Orwell as being the reserved club, leaving other clubs to do the shouting - but I'd never been in a break with capnsantini before! Really good job motivating everybody.

A strong tailwind up the Nag's head combined with the gradient meant the bunch offered no protection, so I went from the bottom of the hill on the last lap.

Amazing spread of sambos and cake, very very well marshalled, got to see an An Post cycle through me, briefly got to hang on to other A1/2 lads, all good. Sadly I was dropped on every single incline all day after burning what energies I had in an early A3 break.
Angst levels are nicely topped up for the next race after I didn't even finish, going around on the last lap on my own after doing the second last lap on my own just didn't appeal. I hate not finishing. A day for the tough lads and I was found wanting. Boo! :)

It's a great little circuit though, very honest with the wind from that direction, felt like crosswinds on 3 sides of the 4.
Thanks again to all in Swords CC

Was marshalling at the intersection after top of Nags Head with Billycake and Nathan. I just got a letter from Dublin City Council offering me a role as chief of sweeping division as recognition for my roadsweeping efforts. Couple of guys went wide & just managed to stay upright despite a few wobblers. One guy went into the ditch but was ok. A slow motion fall. Rode out there yesterday and all I can say is what a difference a day makes. Absolutely stunning views. NCD has some lovely rolling hills in that area. Ronan McLaughlin is some powerhouse.
