I have never been to Portugal before so I am looking for some suggestions. what are some popular beach resorts/towns in Portugal with a beach and good nightlife and culture? Some one recommended Lagos? Is it nice? Any other suggestion?

Lagos is really nice for culture but for lively night life I think albuifera would be better IMO

Check out Tavira, quality spot which attracts far less Irish and British tourists.

Alvor is lovely, no crazy strip but a good selection of bars

I have lived in both, Lagos wins hands down. Albufera Strip can get busy, but very very messy, typically lager lout behaviour . Old town is nicer.

Lagos appears to be quieter and more reserved, but wander around the old town late at night and you will find dozens of great night spots. Culturally it is steeped in history and for beaches and watersports etc, nowhere in the Algarve compares

Lagos is a great spot. Lovely beaches, nice restaurants, little cobbled streets and a really good atmosphere. Have been there with my kids so not looking for nightlife but there is always a buzz about in the evening. Single colleague from work went there on his own and had a blast ... loved it! Lucky you, enjoy
