Problem connecting laptop to tv!! Advice appreciated!

I have a sony HDTV, its a KDL-40V4000. I have always been able to connect my laptop (Packard Bell Easynote TJ68) via HDMI, for watching movies etc.. Was even using it lastnight, but today its not working properly, the desktop is only filling the top left hand corner of the screen. Ive attached a pic of what i mean
Ive messed around with resolution and display settings on tv and laptop but cant get it working at all. Its driving me mad. Anyone got any ideas or know what the problem is? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hope its the right forum too, had a quick search around first but couldnt find any threads with the same issue!
