Wasn't webpayments.ie a site with info on setting up merchant accounts etc?

Seems now it directs to onlinepayments.ie run by realex.

My question was about Laser is it being phased out and if so over what period of time?

I spoke to both AIB and BOI in the last quarter of 2011. BOI said they were going to phase it out by March and AIB said they were going to phase it out by June. Neither has happened, but I do know that a lot of the customers of both companies have received Mastercard debit and Visa debit cards as a replacement for their Laser.

The last word I heard is that Laser will be phased out by the end of the year.

The only solid information I can give you is that the operation to phase it out is under way.

Oh, and yes webpayments.ie was bought by Realex last year.

Thanks a lot DP for the info.

This is to do with merchant accounts - the key advantage of an Irish merchant account was acceptance of laser not withstanding if you were based in Ireland etc.

With laser being phased out this is no longer an issue.

Is laser being phased out purely because it is an Irish only card?
