I am looking for a laptop..spending around 500 euro......I know very little,but this looks a bargain..From what I read,the processor is one of the important things to consider....

Well really depends on what you are going to use it for. The OP may not want a dedicated GPU or may prefer the convenience of walking into Argos. (You have the Toshiba warranty still)

For basic web browsing, email, youtube DVD's etc that laptop should be fine. Toshiba have a reliable reputation even if there laptops are not the sexiest out there.

Agreed on Toshiba built quality .

I'ts a simple case of convenience vs value for the money.

In my honest opinion that CPU is simply outdated and simply does not compare to the laptops I linked.

From time to time there is a good laptop offer in brick&mortar stores but unfortunately it does not happen very often.

OP asked if this was a bargain,in my opinion it was not.

If you can pop into powercity and get that Sony then you are doing a lot better than than Argos Toshiba


(I just read the description from the Argos website: The Toshiba Satellite L775 Laptop combines superb performance with premium features including powerful processors, dedicated graphics and crystal clear audio...... I am a Toshiba fan muself but that descriptions should be illegal under some trade act)

Have a look at This Better speck Toshiba . Replace hard drive with an ssd from crucial .

It is also in argos .
The dell is not bad either

That Packard Bell from Tesco/Toshiba from Argos have first generation processors.

If the name of the CPU starts with "2" then it's a 2nd generation CPU.

Examples: I5- 450 --> 1st generation
I5-2450 ---> 2nd generation

That's why they are cheaper.

Besides, if you replacing HDD with SSD it would mean also mean extra cost.

OP is looking to spend around 500 Euros if I'm not wrong .

But He not in buying the laptop for Gaming .
also if had an i7 quad core .
He would not see a major improvement as the hd would prevent him seening an real improvement over a 2.5 first gen processor .

I have both a sub 500 toshiba and an expensive Sony .
I use the Tosh for College as It has a great battery life .
The sony,s is very bad . even with the ssd .

Toshiba - As I stated above are known for built quality, no issues with that.
Sony - I haven't owned it yet but they seem to be getting good reviews in general.
500 Euros won't buy a i7 gaming laptop so however it may buy a lappy with good specs in terms of value, that Toshiba from Argos is simply not.

Agreed on first vs second generation processors, the difference is marginal but you will see that the new 2nd gen graphics has been integrated on the same die as the processor core and therefore has higher graphics frequency for better performance.

SSD VS HDD - Again no point in denying that SSD is a clean winner here.

A question for you

Will replacing a part/SSD for HDD in this case void the warranty?
