Planning to head to Medellin and Santa Marta for roughly 10 days altogether in September. Any advice on where to stay, where to go? And even how to get between the two places?! If I added in another week, is there anywhere else reasonably near by worth checking out? Planning on staying in hostels and perhaps another week would be a good idea seeing as flights are the expensive part

    Certainly Fly between the 2.

Probably check out Cartagena in between.

In Medellin I stayed here, which was quite nice though not the easiest place to get some sleep:

Manizales is supposed to be quite good too, near(ish) to Medellin.

Plenty of good nightlife around, though it is more based around the weekends and quietens down Mon-Wed.

Tayrona National Park is excellent and you should spend a few days there, it is very close to Santa Marta.

I can't remember where I stayed in Santa Marta but it was a nice hostel just out side town, had a big pool.

Taganga is a nice chill out seasisde town close by, cheap diving if you are interested in that.

Hope this helps. you should have a great time.

EDIT: The hostel I stayed in Santa MArta was this place:
