Hey, basically I been doing lessons with instructor for 5 months, I am okay like, i can drive around city, around town and dublin, and so on, I thought once I get car I will drive alone hoping I wont get stopped, well today I decided to review this idea and read up laws, guidelines etc.. and decided to find alternative way of learning (just thought if there is such restriction and law then there is obviously a safety reason for that, and well law is a law afterall). I asked few friends and relatives to help and drive with me as they are full licensed, but problem is: They are all Russian speakers, yet I am used and want to remain to be used to English explanations/definitions/rules, yet I dont' know anyone who would help.

What can I do in this case? I don't want to pay instructor like 25 euro and hour, I have driving test on 10th of July, and I need basically this month to practice with someone, what can I do? Is there any chance someone here from boards can help? I got everything - tax, insurance, NCT, everything is sorted out and good. Anyone?

This law sucks for someone like me, really goes against me

How soon did you apply for your test? Were you waiting long before you got your test date?

Practise as much as you can but I can't see why you couldn't have one of your friends with you they have a full licence anyone could be your sponsor while you are practising.

Do you live near an estate by any chance you could practice most manoeuvres there. Main ones be hill start, turnabout and reverse around corner you could do that much on your own if where you are you can practise those manoeuvres.

Though for general town driving have someone with you. Don't think you can boycott the law, its there for a reason - safety!

I know driving lessons are expensive but maybe have regular pre-tests between now and your test, you have a few weeks yet before you sit it, best to be prepared as much as you can. Know the rules of the road inside out and technical checks know how to demonstrate them.

Practice practise doesn't matter who your sponsor is once they have had their full licence for more than 2 years!

I can do maneuvers no problem, I did them lots of times and even today. And I live in city centre itself.

Listen to the Russian speaking drivers and be gratefull for it. I applaud your determination to work in this nations language. I think you know what is right and wrong as regards driving. But this practice is invaluable. Make use of every oppertunity.
