Frankie Dettori No Longer Godolphin #1

Well there has been plenty of talk recently so I can't say Im surprised.

    These quotes are from Godolphin's racing manager Simon Crisford;
"Rides will be split across the board. They will all get equal opportunities. Frankie has to share the cake and he understands that.

"We brought in two new, young jockeys and it is obviously important to give them opportunities. For years Frankie was our only retained jockey. We had other people who would regularly ride for us but it was an informal arrangement. These two jockeys are formally retained.

"I thought we made it reasonably clear at the time that, if any one of them struck up a winning combination with a certain horse, the chances are they are going to stay on that horse. Certainly that's Frankie's understanding of the situation."

I called this a while ago. Barzelona wasn't coming over to ride second string horses, he was told, maybe unofficially, tgst he'd be riding the best horses.

Good call slattsy. This screams of an imminent retirement from frankie. Gradually decrease his numbers to the other two until he winds up rather than an overnight switch. Maybe end of the season

Had to laugh at someone who sent a message into ATR earlier that Matt Chapman read out 'Frankie has been in terrible form the past few days' as Chapman said his last 7 rides read 2131212 (not including the 1 so far today!) Still a great jockey but wouldn't back him each way anymore after he fecked up on Blue Bunting in the Oaks last year costing me a nice placepot!

    Coolmore? Is it a possibility?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

Definately on his way to Coolmore I'd have thought.

No coincidence the ride on Camelot and now this within a few weeks of the Arc. Probably just ride in the big races, while Joseph and the lads will ride donkeys Ireland.

No surprise he has left. 2 trainers, 3 or 4 stable jockey's and a poor few seasons now. The boys in blue fire tons of cash at the game but seem to lack a degree of focus. They'll probably appoint murtagh next as a replacement!

I see that Ladbrokes have put Frankie as favourite for next year's jockey title in Britain. As they have very good links with Coolmore, they may know that he isn't going to ride their horses and just focus on the title again. He'll get loads of rides thats for sure but whether he wants the travel involved in winning the title, i'ld doubt it.

Murtagh for Frankie's job might be a runner though.

next to zero chance of Dettori being Coolmore No 1 (5 kids in London, is he the type of ride Wexford and Killarney)
next to zero chance of Murtagh being Godophin No 1 (for the same reason why he is no longer aga khan's no 1)

6/4 that he rides a domestic group 1 winner next year with Paddy Power.

I think he might do it on Spirit Quartz. Kings Stand or Nunthorpe.

Read on another site somewhere a rumour that he'd get a contract for group 1 races. More than likely speculation though wouldn't be overly surprised.

Yes. I dont think he will be interested in coming over to ride out either. Don't see him being any more than a freelance rider that Coolmore use when needed. Same status as Ryan Moore.

Dettori when interested is the best in this part of the world. The Godophin experiment hasnt exactly been progressing lately. Being with Godolphin wasnt a guarantee for group 1 success. If anything, his classic haul for Godophin shows how much of limited success the venture was.

Godolphin's problem is that Sheikh Mohammed is too stubborn and continues to fail to invest in coolmore progeny. With Coolmore having all the best stallions (Godolphin have only new approach coming through), they will continue to flounder under SM's current policy

Why is he not with the AK anymore?

I assume he's referring to his links with Carmody

Am I the only one waiting on a breaking story about Frankie taking Princess Haya on?

    I joke, I joke!

I'm still lost here - I don't follow the minutae of flat.

I think I saw once that Murtagh rode for Tommy Carmody and the AK was unhappy - is this it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,431 ✭✭✭Morgans

Murtagh is helping the training of horses that run for Tommy Carmody. He also rides them when possible.

Rumour has it (told by people who saw this) that he was in the winners enclosure celebrating with connections of Ursa Major when he won the St. Leger trial. HH Aga Khan representative wasnt too happy with this, given that his horse Hartani finished second.

A few days later, the news broke.

Wow, one would say that announcement about Frankie leaving Godolphin came out of the blue!

    I've already got my coat.

RP report dettori tested positive at a meeting in France the day after the uk st ledger. Alcohol, I presume?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Aren't alcohol breath tests done before racing, with results known immediately? Would have to be some form of drug to take this long.

"Frankie Dettori's failed test over a banned substance at Longchamp in September was not for a performance-enhancing drug, his solicitor has said."

    Obviously not :D

It's probably coke, the way he leaps around and thinks he is great. Would be nice to see him get a long ban and see if Balding and Co rave about him them.

That means downers are out as well ;-)

Couple of more statements and we can analyse him ourselves.

Coke isnt performance enhancing nor is it a downer ;)

Maybe its viagra, it helps your riding performance!
