too much to pay for an old Escort, which is what it is at this stage.

I'd try and mate it with a piano.

    Heres one for €750.
But beware of timewasting seller trying to hide the fact that its also on UK plates.

and an irish reg'd one here for a lot less,
out of curiosity why did you mention that particular car here and the bangornomic's thread when IMO there neither a classic nor a bargain,

I've yet to meet an Escort Cabrio that wasn't an electrical nightmare. The fusebox is a serious weak point in these cars and is unique to them.

Yep, it's a classic alright. A classic example of how not to make a car. Take one of the most dull and featureless cars, cut off the roof and replace it with a leaky piece of fabric. The result was a damp, dull featureless car with even worse handling thanks to cutting the roof off!

That model Escort is a heap and always will be, no matter how it's dressed up.
    This is a classic:

Didn't have to be a cabrio for the fusebox trouble. I replaced wagons load of them in those Escorts. Of all the ones I drove, and there was probably more than 200, only 2 were ones that were nice to drive.
