Garmin Edge software Update

Anyone done this recently? Any issues?

I did mine last week and used it today and it's all gone pear shaped. If I connect to the Garmin site and try to upload I get a message saying 'unable to parse directory document'. On Strava, it won't recognise my device.
FAQ's on garmin site say my error is only on firefox - but I'm using Safari, so I've emailled them - awaiting a reply

No problems for me. I'm using Win 7 & Chrome. I'm uploading to Training Peak, Strava & Garmin Connect and downloading to Golden Cheetah v3 & WKO+ 3.

Have to say I'm very happy with the update so far.

Just was over on Wattage and I see a couple of reports of people not being able to upload their data and other reports of devices being left unusable and having to back for warranty replacements.

Just checked mine, I can't view any of my old data!

Upgraded the 800 and now cannot upload to Golden Cheetah - can get it onto Garmin Training Centre and export it from there though

Managed to get it sorted myself. The garmin site said to delete course .fit files as something was corrupted. All but 2 would delete, so I ended up deleting the whole folder then making a new course folder. I now have no courses though..
All of my old data is still on the unit and as far as I can see, everything else is ok. While I was out yesterday, I was following a course I had made, and I was still getting told I was off course when I wasn't, so the update hasn't helped with the one issue I had in the first place.

Ah great. I've never used the courses because I'd heard all the probs about it so never bothered with it. How have you found courses? Many problems as I'd like to use it?

The courses aren't too bad, but can be annoying if it keeps telling you you're off course or sometimes the line drawing disappears altogether - just when you need it as you approach a junction or don't know where you are!
If you make a course on the Garmin site, I found it better to use lots of clicks as points along even a straight road as it seems to get 'lost' a bit less. You can also add a virtual partner to race against if you want.
I've found it handy for getting to know my new area when i moved (still learning!) as well as abroad and will be making new courses soon

Have you tried the to upload from the file location on Strava, rather than letting it search for the rides automatically?

It's Garmin - they don't do robust or well tested ;)

I'm an idiot... I had missed triggermortis update.
I deleted my courses and everything is working fine.
    :D

Thanks for that clod71 and triggermortis – deleting preexisting courses worked to clear up my direct-from-device upload issues :D Edit: I think triggermortis may have meant deleting the courses from the software(?), but I was referring to removing them from the Edge itself, and that worked for me. In any case, the thing is to play with deleting old files (can keep copies elsewhere if needed).

Something to note: At least a couple of my settings were changed back to the initial setup, it seems – I had recording at 1 second and auto-lap off, and had to restore these.

I know you've got the automatic upload back now, but in case you need to upload "manually" in the future, you can copy files from the device to your computer hard-drive or other memory. For Windows (XP anyway):
    (1) On connecting the Edge to the computer, a window should come up for the device (or you should be able to see it under My Computer). Open the Garmin folder > Activities. Drag the files you want to your computer desktop or other location to make copies.
    (2) In GTC click on File > Import to Current User Account > History (eg) > browse for the file you saved on your computer in the window that pops up, > Open etc. The file then appears in a subfolder in Imported Activities (and can be dragged to the main My Activities if you wish).

(I'm assuming this thread is for the Edge 500? There's an earlier one at http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=78873569)
