TV stuck on AV

Since I connected my Saorview box to my TV with a SCART cable, the TV is stuck on AV mode. The problem is that I can't receive a signal on UHF over coax from my digibox in another room. When I had the Saorview decoder connected with a cable with a SCART connector on one end, and audio and video plugs connected to a SCART input adaptor plugged into the TV on the other end, I didn't have this problem. I reckon this is due to the SCART selection line being held permanently high or low. I suppose the solution is just to disconnect this line in the connector. Anyone else had this problem?

have you tried the av button on the tv remote. it should cycle between inputs.

No it won't let me cycle. However if I put the decoder into standby, I can cycle. This is similar to the way the Sky digibox works, automatic SCART selection can be enabled in the menu so that when the box is switched on, the TV switches to AV mode but it can be switched back to input from the tuner. Looking at the SCART pin connections , I'm not sure which pin is locking the TV on AV, possibly the switch pin, pin 8.

Strange, my tv recently stuck in hdmi mode with my walker stb. The remote bottons (I've changed the batteries), volume & channel change don't work anymore. I must try as suggested to power down the stb & see what happens.

Yes pin 8 forces the TV to go to AV, but on some TVs this can be turned off or on some receivers this can be turned off.

You could remove pin 8, alternatively, if you want to use the Scart instead of seperate connectors get a basic scart to seperate adapter.

You would need one for each end and phono cables in between. An S-video lead may give better quality.

These do not allow the pin 8 signal to pass through. Some very cheap scart leads don't bother with pin 8 either. Rather than attempting to cut the pin, normally you can open the scart connector and snip the wire.

I tried disconnecting pin 8 but this produced a signal on the tuner input which was a sort of rolling version of that produced by the set top box. I thought that this was likely to be caused by the fact that pin 8 was floating (0 to 2 v switches to TV) and pulled the pin down to ground with a 10 k resistor. This didn't make any difference though?

I am not sure how removing pin8 would cause the screen to roll. Have you attempted the phono version I suggested above?

Cut pin 19 (composite out) as well.

Ok I sorted this. "Rolling" was probably a bad description. My STB was producing a "No Signal" status message in a rectangle because the signal input wasn't strong enough and this message was sort of sliding along the screen horizontally. In addition to pushing pin 8 out of the connector, I also pushed out pin 16, the BLNK pin. The SCART spec says that this is for switching between composite and RGB input so I don't know why this should have a bearing on things when the TV is switched to tuner input. The box is set to produce RGB output, and disconnecting this pin forces the TV to select composite input. Cutting out pin 19 is probably a good idea also as it is supposed to reduce crosstalk and interference on the RGB or composite inputs to the TV.

On 2nd thoughts, I suppose pin 19 is unlikely to have anything to do with the output from the Saorview box getting on to the analogue tuner output.

I should have thought a bit before replying.
