I'm seeing a lot of diesel A4s around town badged as S and RS 4s.
    Anyone else notice this trend?

Seems it's died down a bit around Tallaght anyway.
Absolutely hate the idea of badging your car as something it's not.

TDIs are the new glanza's,I wanted a glanza but couldn't get insured on one so i got a 110bhp Golf GT TDI (a real one,i also hate fake cars) and got it remapped. It now has 150bhp and more torque than an e46 M3!!the take off in it is actually painful..i always hated diesel cars because of the niose but once you get used to all that extra torque you'll never go back to petrol. As for the people who drive TDI "RS4s" they just updraded from their 1.4 "Type R"s

As a knowledgeable car person I cringe when i see a RS4 badged oil burner with dodgy exhausts and dubious body kit. Felt is the term that we use.

First one I saw was in 2004, was the current model at the time. Guy tried to trade it in. Wanted bonkers money for it at the time.

I had a 180 bhp V6 diesel with more torque than there are torques in the world and i couldn't wait to get back to petrol,i counted down the days to petrol on my wall like i was in prison :D

As long as i can afford to run one i'll always have a performance petrol over a diesel.

OR their "GT TDI" golfs :P

As for the trend mentioned by the OP \/

Unless you get a proper performance Petrol motor...

I'd much rather decent Torque over a larger powerband than a gush of Torque for a pretty limited range.

I kind of feel like creating an analogy based on the comparison of a long relaxed yet satisfying dump compared to explosive diarrhoea right about now. :pac:

Lol. Not quite. You arent comparing torque across cars correctly.
1.9TDI at 160bhp remapped (closest I could find), with EFF gearbox has a 3rd gear ratio of 1.345 and a Final Drive of 3.33
E46 M3, stock, has 3rd gear ratio of 1.67 and Final Drive of 3.62

Note that the gearing in the M3 has much higher multiplicative torque figures than the VW EFF box (standard box for 150BHP ARL TDI engine). The reason for this difference is RPM range (ie power) is vastly higher on the M3, it Revs to 8000rpm and delivers 80% of torque from 2000rpm to 7800rpm (while the remapped TDI delivers 80% from 1800rpm to 3400rpm, a crappy thin wedge).

The on the road effect of this regarding peak torque (Axle Wheel Torque) , ignoring drive train losses on both cars, 3rd gear:
    VW 1.9TDI 163bhp = 1164ft/lbs
    BMW M3 E46 (340bhp) = 1632ft/lbs

And of course a petrol car will deliver torque over double to triple the powerband your 1.9TDI does. There is no comparison, the M3 delivers far more torque to tarmac over a longer period and this comparison is pretty much the same in any given diesel to petrol comparison (outside of fringe stuff like BMW's Double / Triple turbo diesels and VAG's V10 and V12TDIs).

i guess it was a clever idea back in the day but when you see more RS4s going around than A4s, something stinks.
it's one thing to stick an s-line badge on coz you got some kit, but to badge it as a totally different model is just wrong

    3. CTR replicas
    4. ITR replicas
    5. IV seen a Vx220 Mercedes badged.

You hate fake cars and got a GT Tdi?? You know that that GT badge is only a badge and of no difference to the car.As for you saying you have more torque than a e46 M3.....you've already been told.

VW listed the model, put the badges on themselves. It's as valid as any other model. Same as you can get a GTI petrol with a lazy 8 valve engine.

Can you link me to somewhere that VW themselves have listed the GT model please and the differences as every English model seems to be listed as GT. (Mk4 Golfs I'm on about as the poster says his was a 110bhp GTTdi)
A definitive list of VW's GT model range would be brilliant because I have never seen one.
