so I am thinking of getting this done as a way to relieve pressure in my ears (resulting from sinusitis).

Has anyone ever had it done? Anyone know of any pro's/con's to having it done??

    cheers..

Simply, it doesn't work. I've done it when my ears were blocked up, made no difference, doc syringed them clean in seconds. Save your the cost of them, there's no benefits in it.

Edit : to expand on it, the theory is that the up draft made by the flame in the hollow candle will drag any contamination out of the ear canal, but it is nowhere near strong enough, though lying there for 5 or 10 mins with the thing on your ear is quite relaxing. But medically, give it a miss.

Maybe ask the chemist for some cerumol, and if that doesn't work, get it sorted by your gp

It doesn't work unfortunately. I've had it done a few times and it was of no benefit whatsoever. I had hoped to avoid having my ears syringed by the doctor but in the end that is what I ended up having done. I wouldn't recommend it as I thought it was a waste of money.

thanks for the replies thus far..

the thing is, I actually have fluid in my middle ear - well thats according to my doctor.. and its really annoying. He said it is as a result of having had loads of sinusitis infections.
I went to a specialist and he more or less dismissed me. But I get this silly pressure in my ears and I am constantly holding my nose and blowing through it in an attempt to relieve the pressure.

I am now on antibiotics but even so my doc is not hopeful that they will resolve the problem.

a friend told me about ear candling and so hence I am enquiring about it.

There is a place here in Cork that does it.
But i read somewhere they it could result in a perforated ear drum if not done right.

I am skeptical about having it done but I have tried so many things and nothing will resolve this. Oh yeah, the specialist even put me on a nasal spray but I may we well be snorting water.

    any other thoughts? anyone?
