Anti-Intruder devices.

I have a few ideas for anti intruder devices around my house, but I was wondering if a burglar was injured as a result of an attempted break-in would I be liable for damages?

Or say I had a high voltage wire wrapped around the ignition wires in my car, would I get arrested if a thief got shocked while interfering with it.

    Hypothetically of course ;)

    Yes.

Sadly, the Occupier's Liability Act does not allow you to place traps on a premises.

Had a read of that. Broken glass on walls and 'keep out' sign good, punji pit bad.

Broken glass on walls ... good

Broken glass on walls not ok!

That's really dangerous / could cause serious injury.

your duty to a trespasser is:

    (a) not to injure the person or damage the property of the person intentionally, and

    (b) not to act with reckless disregard for the person or the property of the person.

That is open to interperatation on a case by case basis but you get the jist.

I heard of sprayers that dye the intruder and gases that knock them out or make it difficult for them to see,i think an old fashioned method but a trusty one is a barking dog if trained well will bark when they hear someone enter..

So is it illegal for those high walls around industrial parks and the like to have glass and barbed wire along the top?

Or is it legal because they're meant to be inaccessible and more of a deterrent than a defence against would-be burglars.

It's not "illegal" in the sense that there is a prohibition on the landowner having them.

It is more of a risk / reward calculation.
Risk - Landowner is potentially liable in damages to any burglar that is injured by these devices.
Reward - Less likely to get burgled in the first place.

These parks have decided that this is a calculated risk worth taking.
