My internet keeps flicking off when I am in the middle of using it. It has nothing to do with UPC - it seems like a computer problem - Any ideas/suggestions. Many thanks

Do you mean the screen goes blank for no apparent reason? If it comes back on when you move the mouse, you're probably running on a power saving setting since the last time you ran on the battery, see if you can switch back to a full power setting appropriate for when you use the laptop off the mains.

There may be a battery symbol on one of the number keys, press Fn and that key to check which power scheme you're currently on.

I don't use the battery so not battery problem. Have to type really fast as for example this message will flash off and screen go blank

I didn't say it was a battery problem, what I said was that you could be using a battery power scheme which has a very short timeout, the type of power scheme that you would use if you wanted to run in an economical mode. Sometimes you can run the laptop off the battery even unintentionally like if you accidently pull out the power cord, the laptop then switches to a battery power scheme and stays on it, that could be your problem.

Check which power scheme you're using. If the screen is blanking that fast it probably isn't the power scheme but it's the first thing you should check.

Could be the IDE cable for the screen is loose in the mother board what type of laptop is it. Have seen a few of them come loose with the opening and closing leading to screen flickering

I'll post some pictures 2moro i will open my laptop and show u what cable to push in

I still don't understand what you're trying to say.

Thanks for answers. I have a Sony Vaio FGN-FE31H Wifi laptop. I do not use the battery - I just plug it in. It is not a flickering problem - the screen just flashes off when I am using the internet.

    you could try this:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967896

i remember back a few years ago the was a virus/spyware that could do this also, cannot remember name, but you could try downloading malwarebytes:

How long does it be on when it starts flicking,

    How old is the Laptop.

    What Make is the Laptop.

while you are using it does it start flicking on/off..

    Two things come to mind

    1. Could be a Cable Issue that it has coming loose..

    2. Could be that the GPU is starting to Die..

To Rule out Number 2. Do you plug the Laptop to a TV ? and does it start Flicking Off/On while your Using it ? if not then it is not the GPU..

It would be the Cable just open the top of the laptop and push in the Cable for the Screen its an easy fix, that could cost you 100euro or more if you take it to a repair shop

Hi Cork. Sorry for delay in getting back to you to thank you. Yes, it must have been the cable. I ordered a new Sony cable and so far am flying. Thanks again.
