    Hi guys,
I want to control a media player from another room.
    Looking at something like this.
    http://www.thomann.de/ie/denon_dnf_300.htm
It comes with a remote control, but I want to control it from another room.
Is there anyway to do this?
    Dont mind running cables:pac:

You want a remote extender: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=remote+extender&x=0&y=0

Personally I would get an iPod Touch or Classic and the dock with the remote receiver in it. Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't see what the capacity of that Denon was.

I can't find that device on the Denon website but if you buy a machine which has network connectivity, you should be able to control it from another room via Wi-Fi using either an Android or iOS (iPhone/iTouch) device with a Denon supplied app, the same applies to Onkyo.

    http://www.denon.co.uk/uk/Product/Pages/Product-Detail.aspx?Catid=Systems&SubId=NetworkMusicSystems&ProductId=DenonRemoteApp

Edit: I just found a Youtbe video about the 'new' DNF-300 dated 2009, maybe you should be looking at newer kit if you want to control it from another room using current technology?

Do you know what dock has a remote reciever?
    Would be handy, thanks.

That Apple dock comes with a remote which is described as providing 'easy control from across the room' meaning it's infra-red which is not what the OP is looking for, he wants control from another room.

A dock won't give him the functionality he's looking for, he needs to connect the device to his network and then use a handheld device like an Android/iPhone/iTouch to control the device remotely from anywhere in the house over Wi-Fi. Currently both Onkyo and Denon have Android and iOS apps to give this functionality to some of their devices.

    My first post:

Do please explain why my suggestions would not yield the results the OP is looking for?

Your first suggestion was a remote extender, then you suggested an Apple Dock, I've already dealt with the Apple Dock.

The type of remote extender you pointed to on Amazon involves having an infra-red gadget in another room which is connected via wire or radio link to it's counterpart in the room containing the device to be controlled. That only allows you to control the device from one other room in the house at a time and it's not 100% clear if the OP is looking to control the device from just one other room or from any room in the house.

What I am suggesting will allow remote control from any room in the house, hence I consider it technically superior to your suggestions.

The remote extender is for the dock - Duh!

The dock + remote extender allows you to control the iPod from another room.

OP: Another option is to get an iPod touch and an Airport Express. Hook up the AE to a HiFi and then just take the Touch to whatever room you want and stream from it to the HiFi via Airplay.

Thanks very much for the help lads.
Going to go with a remote extender as I only need to control the media player from one room.
Thinking of getting this to control media.

    Thanks again :pac:
