Anyone else experience metatarsalgia?

I didn't know it had a fancy name until now but basically this is when the balls of your feet get sore when cycling.

I never experienced this when cycling with my Shimano shoes but seem to be very susceptible to it when wearing Sidis. I reckon the Sidis are a narrower fit for my wide feet and they also have a stiffer sole than the Shimanos.

Anyone else experience this and more importantly what did you do to get rid of it? Anyone had success using insoles? I'd hate to have to ditch my shoes but if that's what it takes then so be it!

I solved similar problems by moving my cleats all the way back towards the centre of the shoe and removing the insoles altogether.

I have Shimano R133 shoes and I get this in my right foot after longer spins and sometimes the pain is exruciating.... but goes after 5 or 10 mins.... I have tried moving the cleats and I still get it...
Not sure what I'll do because it isn't getting any better and as I said, the pain is too much sometimes...
Funny, I was thinking of getting Sidi's... not anymore..!

I think the stiffness of the sole of the shoe is one factor that can contribute to this - if Sidis are stiffer they may be more prone to causing pain.

I used to get it but changing the cleat position helped, except I pushed mine forward!

I got Specialized Body Geometry insoles and they did the trick. I bought mine in Swords, but they do them in Cycleways also. Cycleways also have the thing you step on to determine which of the three insoles is most suitable for you. They are each for different sized arches.

The insoles I got with the shoes originally were rubbish and they started to migrate up around the back of my heel. My feet would get sore after not very long. The Specialized ones really helped. They came with some good general information about setting up your shoes for cycling.
