"The Daily Mirror is to merge with its Sunday stablemate in a move which has cost the editors of both newspapers their jobs.
The uniting of the two titles into a seven day news operation is thought to be a cost-cutting move as revenues have been hit by competition from the internet and the recession.
The change will see a departure of both editors – Richard Wallace and Tina Weaver – and the appointment of a new head of the joint tabloid.
Trinity Mirror, the parent company, has been battling falling circulations and advertising revenue.
It has been turning to the internet, but growth has not been fast enough to offset the falling revenue from its newspapers."

Hope it works better than the sun experiment

Cheers Mike - Very quick with the sword in the Mirror - must have implications for Irish Editions.

    But in the Guardian :

"Lloyd Embley, editor of the People, will take over the editorship of the two titles with immediate effect....

Trinity Mirror is now seeking to appoint an editor for the Daily Mirror for weekdays and a weekend editor, which would combine the editorship of the Mirror's Saturday edition and the Sunday Mirror, with both roles reporting to Embley. A new editor of the People will be also appointed"

Does that strike you as the Mexican Army, replacing the Mexican Army! Or is it the Mexican Army replacing a 'better value'* Mexican Army.

    * please substitute for cheaper, yellow pack or undervalued - depending on your personal preference.
