Importing a Nissan from Algy's

HI there - have fallen mad ;) in love with a particular Nissan Rasheen and thinking about using Algys in the UK to import from Japan. they bid on the cars every day on your behalf. Might be a risky idea considering Im not very clued in about cars (although I know the model I want...), apparently you give them your on the road price and they bid accordingly.

    any advice very welcome e.g.
    • Has anyone ever used Algys to import jap cars? they say it should be possible to get this car in for 3k.eur.
    • Are there any known problems with importing like this - e.g. Parts?
    • anything I should know about Nissans -this car is rare in Ireland - my Toyota was so reliable...
    • any other pitfalls ...
    they say
I suggest you set your bid at a landed price in Dublin.
When the car arrives it would then add duty @ 10% and Vat @ 21%
So if you bid 3000 euros for eg and we buy at landed Dublin for 3000 euro it will then add:
    10% 3300 euro
    21% 3993 euro
Then you will have to add mot and vrt to put it on the road.
If that is over your budget reduce the landed Dublin bid accordingly.'

    Dealers in Japan - http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?Country=JP&IndexArea=product_en&fsb=y&SearchText=nissan+rasheen

Did you see the Nissan Cube -

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/results?legacy_url=y&searchsource=quick&make_model=Nissan%7CCube&cacheBuster=1338383807765579

Bit like Rasheen but easier parts availability

Try some of the local dealers - they MIGHT take an order and bring one in for you, or you could do it yourself - I know chaps who've done it, customed right to Dublin port, all you do is go down and collect it.

(Remember years ago in NewZealand, they would fly you to Japan to 'buy' your car, then once your name was on the registration paperwork , you could import it as 'personal baggage' free of taxes - never happen in this Banama republic :D )

Check if would be cheaper buy that car here in Ireland. wouldnt say there is many around. 3 k is bit too expensive for car 12 -18 years old. .
check this website, bit cheaper there - http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan%20car/nissan/rasheen/

by this financial situation , i wouldnt buy anything outside ireland, a specially that "special" car, as nobody would buy, if youll be forced sell.

i had skyline imported from Japan, and at the end it went dearer than buy already one here.

If you after suv, get subaru forester, and youll get normal regular suv , for your budget you'd get really nice one.

That is horrid looking. Looks like a skip on wheels or something.

I'm sure its reliable though which is important to many.

It's like a mini Hummer, tho I had thought of making a mini-Hummer lookalike out of a Jeep Cherokee.

Maybe a Jeep Cherokee would be cheaper in the long run ?

    Few things;

A lot of cars from certain parts of Japan have been flood damaged since the bad weather last year

Some cars have radiation issues, so some exporters have stopped exporting, not sure if the Irish authorities check them on import

You'll pay vrt at the top rate as you won't have an EU certificate of conformity, that said the vrt calculator gives a value for emissions but I'd double check.

Also it's awful looking and I actually doubt youd get the car for the price estimated

    Radiation issues?!
    ehh riight.

Japanese imports older than '08 don't need a certificate of conformity.

As a former owner of a Nissan Pao - if you like the Rasheen then fire away - don't worry what anyone else thinks of your choice. I'd have thought there would be a few popping up for sale in the UK from time to time though -do you really need to import from Japan?

For determining emissions based vrt don't they need proof of emissions. Came across this when I looked into importing another FTO

I like boxy cars and currently lust after a Volvo 850, but by jesus that's one ugly yoke of a thing. Yeuch. No offense like.

am surprised at the non-love of the Rasheen!:D

I think its cool but bear in mind I'm a female who is very fussy and opinionated about cars. who wants the retro look but not the breaking down element .Ideally I'd buy a vintage volkswagon karmenn ghia..!!!.also I utterly despise the appearance most of the horrible looking yokes on the road these days, especially new cars, except maybe the new baby fiat! I guess its all down to taste - one mans saab is another womans lada!

    :P

Love the Pao too and that was 1st choice but they are so tiny...! The nissan figaro is just too girly & has no muscle so this was my next idea and o....! anyway lots of food for thought. Im not going to rush into anything. thanks all!

The back of the car looks much better than front;)

Since we should not discuss one's taste, i am not going to laugh at the car or anything. Bear in mind that if you import it, it will be really hard to resell in the future. The choice is yours, really, and no doubt this car will be head-turner.

Ah to be fair, you deserve a bit of respect if you bring one in.

The Pao isn't so small inside - I'm over six foot and never felt short of space in the thing - they're just as short of muscle as the Figaro though - unless you ditch the cat in them and keep clear of the auto box (which most of them have).
