The Epsom Dash takes place during the Investec Derby meeting and it’s the venue for the fastest 5f in the world. The course is almost entirely downhill and regularly sees average horses clock Group horse times. The record at the track is 53.6 seconds for the 5f. Last year’s Investec Dash winning time was 54.3; to put that in context, it’s around two seconds faster than Black Caviar has ever run 5f. You need almost quarter horse speed to win at this track and normally the high draw is favoured.
