Hi everyone my mother just got her Irish passport through Naturalisation today. We're Nigerian. I was on stamp 3 for a yeah and a half and on January of this year was upgraded to stamp 4. I just wanted to know; so I just have to wait 5 years before i can apply for Naturalisation to get an Irish passport?

I got stamp 4 because my sister and 2 brothers are Irish and all have Irish passports and my late stepfather was Irish. Does stamp 3 count towards Naturalisation or only stamp 4 does?

    Thanks in advance.

Assuming you are over 18 years old and assuming you will applying by using the Form8 application, then Stamp 1 and Stamp 4 are the qualifying stamps when calculating 'reckonable residency' for Irish Citizenship through naturalisation.

Easiest and most hassle-free way to see whether or not you have the requisite time is to impute your dates into the on-line calculator on the INIS website. There is no need to identify yourself or put your name in the calculator if you want to use it as a guide.

Reckonable stamps are 1,3,4,5 and 6, non reckonable are 1A, 2 and 2A.

Oh ok. I'll contact my local gardai officer just to go over my stamps and dates but I pretty much know for a fact I had stamp 3 from 06 jan 2011-06 Jan 2012 and stamp 4 from 13 jan 2012 to this current date. So im guessing that basically means I have 3 & 1/2 years to run before I can apply

No need to go to Garda, the stamps should be stamped in your passport. I notice you have a gap, try and avoid gaps as it can in some cases cause issues. I assume your current stamp runs out early 2013, i know some Garda stations only have immigration officer on certain days and times, so best to go early to renew.

Oh yeah good point she always stamped my passport when renewing my gnib card. Yeah the rare time i was a few days late on payment thats why there's gaps. Thanks so much for your info:)
