    Hello folks.
Well I bought a car a few weeks ago with the intention to sell it on again at a profit. My problem being I need to put a new Nct on it before I sell it. The centre is 20 minutes over the road but knowing my luck I'd probably get pulled by the gardai anyway. It has no tax either, its just in my name. I don't drive the car at all and it seems stupid to have to insure it for a 20 minute drive. Thoughts?

You're looking for someone on the Internet to tell you it's ok to do something that you already know is illegal??

I hope you get nailed to the wall if you get caught!!!

To be legal you could probably organise a tow truck although I am not sure will the NCT "mechanics" go near it if there is no insurance.

You don't have to NCT it before you sell it, knock a couple of hundred off the price. And don't put 'no NCT but will fly through' on the ad :)

You should insure it even though your only driving to the NCT Centre and back, I personally wouldn't tax it though, just go to your local Garda Station and explain the situation.

Do you not have insurance on another car that you could transfer over to this one to cover your journey to and from the test centre?

OP, do you have car insurance on another car? if so, transfer yer own insurance onto it.

Or rent a car transporter. You should rent one for €50.

Of course you can't drive it without an NCT either! THe exemption seems to apply only after it has failed! So no tax, no display of tax, no insurance, no display of insurance and no NCT. Is this a business? Might need to consider how best to organise affairs.

can you not just get insured for the day? add it to your policy? have someone who is insured to drive any car drive it? etc etc

Only works if he doesn't own the other car... if the car he wants to drive is in his name they won't do temp change of vehicle.
