    Hello folks.
Well I bought a car a few weeks ago with the intention to sell it on again at a profit. My problem being I need to put a new Nct on it before I sell it. The centre is 20 minutes over the road but knowing my luck I'd probably get pulled by the gardai anyway. It has no tax either, its just in my name. I don't drive it at all and it seems stupid to have to insure it for a 20 minute drive. Thoughts?

No Tax, No Insurance, it's not allowed on the road - simple as.

Insurance would be the biggest concern in case of an accident so if you had a friend with insurance that would transfer his for the duration of getting it to and from the NCT Centre (most insurance companies can transfer insurance to another vehicle for an hour) but it needs to be driven by him. Tax it for 3 months prior to this and factor that into sale price if needs be.

If a car is being towed, do you need tax and insurance on it?
Or does it count legally as a trailer, covered by the towing car?

Get someone from a garage with garage plates/ insurance to bring it over for you.

You should be able to insure it just for the few days. Buy the insurance the day beforehand, afterwards ask to cancel the policy. You should only have to pay an admin charge plus the premium for a few days.

What about when the car is being test driven?
Its not just a 20 minute drive!

If the car is in your name your policy won't cover you but if you had a mate drive it up who is covered under the driving other cars optoon on their policy that's fine. The tax though is another problem. If it was me I would price a recovery truck to bring you there and back, probably work out cheapet.

    Sure about this?

I mildly remember a case where a car being towed struck another car because the person in the towed car engaged the steering lock and it was treated as a trailer.
