Parts are no problem. There are a number of places in the Uk you can order from, Neo Brothers being the one i use.

Are a few garages the still service/ sell Saabs. Tom Walsh in Donabate and Something Ridgewood in Sandyford. CD Motors are an independant garage in Fairview that specialise in Saab.

cheers - any known issues with the 9-5 that are worth looking for?

I know some people on here and the guy in the garage i bought mine off did say the diesels give problem.

Apart from that, i'd say as with any car, get it checked before you buy it and get a Cartell history etc

Saabs really droped in price. You can get a lovely 07 ones for quite cheap. A lot of car for the money.

    Very true. I picked up a '05 93 1.8T with only 39K for 5K.

I've got a 2006 95 2.0t petrol. It is really well specced out, very comfortable and I find it relaible. Only parts I needed were to replace two bushings, SAAB specific parts were easy for the garage to source.
Having said that, it's not fuel efficient and the resale value will be close to zero. As said above, you do get a lot of car for the money.

I bought an 07 Linear Sport auto in Oct last year for €6500 - FSH, 100k kms and 18 months NCT. Leather, heated seats, dual-zone climate control, etc.

Other than a service it has needed a headlight relay, bought on ebay for £28 and it was flashing up engine warning lights which turned out to be a tiny hole in a hose from the Turbo - fixed with a 20c piece of tubing. Loads of specialists on ebay and the web who can get you parts.

I've done maybe 12k kms in that time and I am getting an average of 24MPG that is with a 50km each way commute a few days a week and the odd trip to Dublin. Best was 27.61MPG - Fermoy-Dublin Airport-Fermoy at 120k/hr with cruise control. Worse was 17.16 - all around town..........

The 17 inch wheels don't give the smoothest of rides on poor roads but the car is fast, comfortable and in my opinion for the money it is unbeatable.

I drive a '00 9-5 Aero estate. It has 119k miles up but looks and drives like a much newer car. If you're looking for a big comfortable cruiser they're hard to beat for value for money.

    Points to note:
    • Parts availability is no problem - Partsforsaabs and other online sites are good, plus a lot of parts are identical to Opel/GM.
    • 9-5 engines had a design problem which was fixed in late '04. This problem leaves the engine prone to sludging which if not caught can lead to self destruction. Aero models are safer as they used fully synthetic oil. If you go for an older one insist on FSH and get someone to drop the sump to make sure there's no sludge.
    • Regarding MPG, mine's a 2.3 manual with 265bhp. I get 30-33mpg on the motorway at 120km hr, around 20 in stop start traffic and about 27 mpg overall. Depends on the level of fun...
    Good luck!

i assume by very similar car you mean the same car?

Unless the Dealer is trying to sell the car for them, but reckoning is they bought it to sell it on.

yeah, that's what i assume alright - but it gives me a fair idea of what the dealer paid for it

Aye, doesn't mean that they'll let it go for anywhere near that!

Ring them and see, it's only a phonecall away.

I had a few 9-5s over the years (well three in a row!) and loved them. Were it not for a company car coming, we would not have changed away. They eat miles and still have a nice bit of poke.
