Tax Question

    Tax was out since the start of May, car has been off the road was doing a few bits and pieces with her, NCT is up end of the summer so just fixing a few bits here and there hopefully might save me doing them later and things getting worse.

    On the motor tax site is has;

    Tax Band (Annual) (Half Year) (Quarter Year) Arrears (Per Month)
    1501 - 1601 - (478) - (265) - (135) - 47.80

    So, if I go to tax the car in a week or two will I have to pay two months arrears on top of this?! 230.60!?

    You can declare it off the road if it hasn't been on the road

    But i take it the second months arrears kick in as soon as the start of the month passes? If that's the case, would I be better off to leave it sitting on axle stands for june too, declare it off the road and tax it for 1st of july?

    I think that's due to change in the near future.. you'd have to declare it off the road before taking it off the road.. and even pay for the pleasure of doing so!

    You pay arrears only for months that passed by and car was used on the road.
    In your case, if car was not used in May, and say you will want to start driving it again in mid June, then you go in mid June to motortax office, fill in RF100a form, declare car was not used in public place in May, get a garda signature to witness your signature, and pay f.e. 3 months tax for June, July and August at a rate of 135 euro.
    No arrears.
