Really enjoyed the TV show on Netflix (up until half way through the second series anyway). Was going to buy the movie which I've heard mixed reports about, anyone recommend it?

I'm a big fan of the film, though I think I might be in the minority on that one.

It's very different tonally from the series; a lot, lot darker and more obtuse.
And it doesn't really give much sense of closure (not in a straightforward way, though I do really like the film's ending).
But as a Lynch film I think it's great, almost a horror film in some ways.

yea, it was quite a bit weirder than the show and wasn't really necessary, and Coop was barely in it

I heard its a totally different kettle of damn fine coffee alright, maybe at the time people wanted more of the same but at 20 years remove it might be worth a watch. I was joking with the thread title btw, I knew it was that oul divil bob/the dad. Pity Sherilyn Fenn isn't in the movie, one of the sexiest tv characters ever imo.

I was just thinking, the film is actually not too dissimilar to the final episode in that it's pretty uncompromising in terms of bombarding you with out-and-out weirdness, so if you liked the finale you might be better disposed towards the film.

I think it's probably Lynch's weakest film (Dune aside). It just all feels a bit pointless, with no real extra insight into the characters or events of the TV series (well, the first two-thirds of the TV series, before it jumped several sharks). Some interesting ideas, but I struggled to remain interested.

Still, a certain cameo in it is probably one of the two or three all time greatest David Lynch moments of what-the-****ery. Worth watching for that alone. Or youtube it. Whatever.

If you watch all of the TV show you may as well watch the film. I think the film would be/is awful if viewed as a stand alone piece.

Then again what would I know? I thought the Log Lady was a hottie!
