Most cars have a little tab on the catch that you can flick with a flat head screw driver to open it. You might have to remove some paneling.

Edit: have a look at this http://www.justanswer.com/uk-car/1at4n-open-ford-galaxy-boot-when-lock-failed.html

Is that the same model Galaxy as the 02,or the older model ?

On the 02, if you take off trim on the inside of the boot, you will see the lock mechanism on the bottom. There is a little white solenoid/motor which activates the lock. If you manually move the end where it links to the lock mechanism, the tailgate should open. I have a solenoid for one which you are welcome to free of charge if you need one.

thanks Ronnie Beck and lifer_sean for replying.we've the older model.its such a pain, think i'll just have to cut some of the panelling off and get it open that way, like was said already.:( prob have to get a new lock,NCT is up next month and it won't pass like that,so i'll have to sort it soon, thanks again!
