Is cake flour the same as plain flour??

    Ive found some recipes online from american chefs and im just wondering is cake flour the same as plain flour, and bread flour the same as self raising flour over in Ireland? Thanks :)

    Cake flour is plain flour alright but bread flour is not self raising it's strong flour.

    US recipies don't normally use self raising flour (primarily because people have to adjust for altitude and you can do this more easily if you add the raising agents separately.
