Back light on Dell Vostro

    Hi all,

I'm having problems with the backlight on my 4 year old Dell Vostro 1500. It works for about 20 seconds after powering up, but then goes dead. In good light you can see that the display is still on the screen, but its unlit.

At first it was an intermittent problem, and closing the lid down and opening it again would sort it out. This made me think it was a problem with the switch, but since I tried setting it to sleep when the lid closes, and it worked, I dont think thats the problem.

The fact that it does light up for a while also makes me think that the light itself is ok, so I'm thinking probably a loose wire supplying power to the light? Though that doesn't really explain why closing the lid used to fix it...

Any opinions/advice on what the problem might be or where I might be able to get it sorted would be much appreciated. I know it's a 4 year old laptop, and doesn't owe me much, but it's still working fine in every other respect, so I'd sooner not bit it, or confine it to desktop duty with an external monitor.

    Thanks

Can be a connection on the inverter board

    or

    the inverter may be faulty

    or

it may be the bulb in the screen itself

its a process of elimination, hard to do with out spare parts to interchange to see what part is offending. Probably best to get it sorted by a pro if your not to up on this.

Screen will be about 120 fitted

Invertor will be about 40 fitted
