The Mens Muddyfox RBS100 Cycling Shoes are an excellent choice, featuring blades to the forefoot and heel combined with Look cleat compatibility. These road cycling shoes also have padding to the ankle collar, a perforated tongue and a breathable mesh panel upper for a comfortable fit.

Any three-bolt compatible road pedals will do.

These pedals definitely work anyway and the cleats come with them. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=50512
Im sure they will work with any pedals to be honest.
I had trouble with some of the nuts in the shoe though and only got it sorted out yesterday. I havent used them properly yet, just need to get used to them without falling over.

I recently purchased my first roadbike.

Looking at proper pedals at the moment and to be honest I haven't a clue.

I don't need the type that double as a normal pedal. I am reading some good reviews about speedplay zeros.

Am I jumping in the deep end here and should I get something a bit more entry level. I've had the straps on my old bike for years so do have a bit of experience with been careful when coming to a stop.

Any other suggestions would be more than welcome. I plan on buying them over the weekend.

Ive been strongarmed into the ROK cycle and want a good month in them for practice.

Is it better to splash the cash on good pedals or good shoes?

    Any advice is welcome.

Speedplays are complicated and expensive. Don't buy them unless you have good reason to.

I used these until recently they worked fine (for me anyway)

Or in your LBS - I found the Shimano shoes a bit on the snug side so went 2 sizes up to get the proper fit

I only swapped to SPDs after my bike was nicked but I am thinking of going back to the SPD-SL as I find them a much better platform
