Foreign bank accounts

    Which currency and possibly even a bank recommendation would you suggest to someone that wants to have a savings account outside of Europe that has a decent rate and a respected guarantee scheme.

    There are obviously other considerations such as being taxed at the higher marginal rate of tax versus the DIRT rate and exchange rate movements/charges but for the purposes of this question those factors need not be taken into account.
