Basically, my need for criticism is, I covered a number of events now, but im just having trouble with conveying a story of sorts with my images. I see images and reports from other people from the events I cover and they seem to show the atmosphere of the event, and have more of a feeling to them which I think mine just lack...?

Can anyone point me in the right direction...?

    Hey Adam,

Good pics. Was there myself covering the Saturday, don't think I met you though!

I know what you mean about struggling to convey a story. It's tough at the PD events sometimes because the majority of the lads are writing for blogs so will have a natural scheme of things in their mind. I.e. a few practice if any, qualifying, top 32, 16, etc etc.

Given the strength of the sun at the weekend I think your pictures came out great. In my opinion they could be warmed up a bit in PP as some of them feel a bit too cold.

Again, given the fact that everyone is restricted to the same areas its hard to differentiate drift event pics.

Paddy, Martin, Marty and the others may be able to offer more tips though as Im only a beginner myself :)

Edit: Also without brown nosing Paddy completely keep an eye out for his feature on Speedhunters from the weekend when it goes up. His are always a great guide of how to do a stand out feature.

    Great pics adam,

Was there too doing video so know exactly what it was like.

Try get more crowd in the background, maybe not be zoomed in so close to the cars. your use of shutter speed seems to be spot on but try concentrate on the backdrop more. As in if you were to the right of the |PD tower you would have gotten more crowd in.

just a few little things but may help you out.

    fair play

to a casual browser (i.e. someone without the same interest in drifting as you), this is just a long list of very similar shots of cars burning rubber.

so it depends on what your aims are; if you want more atmosphere, why not try to get more 'behind the scenes' style shots? i don't know how accessible the various areas are, but it might be worth showing some of the competitors the shots you already have to prove you're not a spoofer.

Great struff but I would echo a previous posters advice, get some people in it. A spectator sport needs spectators! Maybe try and convey some emotion from the drivers, a few pictures of the winner with a big grin waving his arms and the losers throwing tantrums, try and convey the story of competition not just a tire burn-out.

Coming from an amataeur point of view i think the one with the 97 D black Car(22) seems to be the best image for me,no idea why but it just stands out from ther rest, maybe someone else can describe why its best if i am right.

I think that some of the images look too static and lack any feeling of speed
For some of the photos I would have used a slower shutter speed and paned harder for a more streaky style background to help create the impression of speed
