Sky Error 25 - No Satellite Signal is being received

    Guys,

I'm wondering if ye might be able to advise me. I've a regular Sky+ box, it is about three years old. It has been working away perfectly with no issues until this evening.

    I'm getting the following error.
No Satellite Signal is being received. Please unplug your box from the mains, then plug it back in and wait 5 minutes before trying again.

I've unplugged the box and waited 5 minutes as instructed and it temporarily corrects the problem. However, when I change channel, I get the Sky No 25 error again.

Can this problem be easily rectified or should I look at getting a new Sky HD box?

    Many thanks in advance :)

It could be 1 of the two cables from the satellite has disconnected either at the inputs to the dish or the rear of the Sky box, check these first.

Indeed. Try swap the two cables from the dish at the back of the box, If it starts working then it means one of the cables is damaged etc.

Generally it is not a box problem, but a cabling or dish problem. Sky will generally charge you 100 euros callout to sort the problem. If you threathen to cancel they may reduce the charge to zero, but they will tie you into another years contract.

You could try checking the receiver on a friends lnb/dish. Also, you could try your friends receiver on your lnb/dish.

That will tell you precisely where the problem lies.

Any chance the dish has become misaligned?

Unless it's a Thomson. What's the make and model number on the label underneath?

Thanks for all the replies guys :)

I have been messing around with the cables and the Sky box and I now know that my channels work away perfectly until I record something. For example, if I record RTE 1 and try to view another channel, I get the 'Error 25' message, if I stop recording the picture is restored.

So from my point of view one of the cables is damaged. This is most likely were it joins on to the dish. This would give the exact problems you say above.

Possibly it could be the connection where the cable joins the back of the box. Check for a strand that connects the outside to the centre.

If you go into the signal strength page under services, you should see that the signal on one cable is stronger than on the other.

You probably need one of the cables replaced as it's likely water has entered at the dish end.

Thanks Lads. Ironically I was waiting for the no signal to kick in last night so I could chase those birds away and it was picture perfect! I'll check the wiring and LNB as well along the lines discussed and will report back.

i had this problem with past month, and a few days ago it was fixed once and for all, i tried all this advice about resetting and hard start the box, all in vain,
but my problem was that one of the wires connections outside was rusted and wet, so no signal, just a new little connector 1 euro worth of a thingy a five minuit job, alls well since

So 'd old cable' is the cable the box was formerly connected to, & it's definitely still connected to the dish & all? You just moved it to the other room & reconnected to the Sky box LNB-in socket?

If that's all you did, then the problem might be found at the connection to the box, e.g. connector could have been partially undone from the cable, if it's the type that twists onto the cable.

I can only speculate as to what the cause might be, & as I hinted at already, my 1st suspicion would be any parts you disturbed or fitted/refitted yourself.

If you fitted the connector inside, did you make sure there was good contact between the cable braid & the outer part of the connector, & that the braid wasn't coming into contact with the inner wire?
