I graduated in 2006 with a degree in civil. I was an Engineers Ireland member for 2 years upon graduating but lost my job then and couldn't afford to continue. I have been working in the Uk since 2008 and believe i have the competencies to go for my chartership. My query is do i have to backpay for membership for the last 4/5 years? Also do i have to go through the full application procedure again or do i just have to give my old membership number, pay and i'm back in?

Once im in i will be hoping to apply for chartership in next 6 months i believe. I have never been on a training scheme but looking at the competencies im pretty sure i tick all the boxes. Though being based in Uk not sure if its possible? Has anyone gone through chartership despite spending most of their working time in the uk?

You can start again afresh as a new member. You may get a new membership number though. If you wanted your old membership number you'd have to back pay...so just apply as though you haven't been a member before. But of course you can include this info. Iin your application...won't go for or against you really.
You can apply for chartership once you are a member again. Just fill out an application from fresh. It's 4+ years experience/competence that's required...not 4+ years IEI/Eng Ireland membership!

We've had a few issues with this in the office a few times in the last couple of years.

You will be asked for your membership number.
You will be asked to pay 2012 fees.
    It's that simple.

If they ask you about the years in between say you weren't working and/or you didn't see te benefit

Thanks for that. Will get it sorted in the next few days so. Has anybody any experiences of applying for CEng. with Engineers Ireland but based in the UK?

No issue with it but if you get through the report stage you will have to come to Ireland for the interview. Lots of Engineers Ireland members abroad. A lot apply from overseas too. No issue there.
