Really sad news. I thought he might give Canelo a tough fight but this latest fight is much more important. Thoughts are with him.

Don't think the paralysis has been confirmed yet but his career certainly looks to be over alright. Tragic. Best of luck to him in his recovery.

Saul Alvarez will probably either face James Kirkland or Miguel Cotto next

best of luck to Paul in what is most definitely the biggest fight he has faced yet. Thoughts and prayers with his family.

Nice to see his old foe Sergio wishing him well.

Lara also gave an interview stating he and his family would pray for him which was a nice touch.

He has been told now by the doctors that the likelihood is that he won't walk again. He suffered a pretty nasty spinal injury from the sounds of it, his manager also said he is in denial as well, must be incredibly tough for him.

Quit the bickering lads and stick to the topic at hand. If you feel a post has broken the rules of the forum please report it (in this case it hadn't), rather than sending the thread off topic.

I think we'd all like to see Paul recover as best as he possibly can.

The Ring has a longer version of the story.

Apparently Williams was speeding at the time and went down a long embankment before landing on his back and severing his spinal cord.

He does seem to have a positive attitude about the ordeal:
I should be able to sit up on my own, but, as far as me walking and all of that, it's all on me. I'm going to be walking. I know that. That's how I feel. If I can't walk then, oh well, 'Hakuna Matata' [no worries.] I'll be on a boat fishing.

It's such a shame that this happened and hopefully Williams does make a good recovery. It is worth keeping in mind that Naazim Richardson received similar news after a stroke and then went on to coach Shane Mosley and Bernard Hopkins for some big fights.

Awful news. I loved watching The Punisher in action. A great fighter. The though of a great athlete in a wheelchair is horrible

I love his attitude he's taking towards the whole thing, thinking positive and not feeling sorry for himself.

Loved watching his all action style and he never really got the recognition he deserved.
Seems a really good guy, hope the next news we hear about him is good news.

Paul was one of the most avoided fighters of his time. Nobody wanted to get in the ring with Paul "The Punisher" Williams. I hope he has made enough money from his years in the ring too allow him to have a good lifestyle and help him deal with a his affliction.
