This thread is not started for debate but literally to show respect to Nicola and her Family and to her friend out in Japan. Please don't derail this thread by discussing the why's and how's etc etc, it's meant as a mark of respect and support.

R.I.P. Nicola, we are with you and your family at this time. It's beyond a tragedy. Respect. Please respect the privacy of the Furlong family.

And to your friend (please don't name unless already reported in the media, leave the family some privacy), you have support here back in Ireland, we are thinking of you.

    RIP Nicola.
Her only crime was being naive and she paid the ultimate price.
Let that be a lesson to other young women.
The charming stranger who gains your confidence quickly may have violent intent.
If just one other girl is saved by learning that lesson then Nicola will not have died in vain.

This is a terrible, terrible loss and just thinking about it sends shivers down my spine. There but for the grace of God goes every family.

Sadly nothing will bring her back but hopefully justice will be done.

The trial is obviously ongoing this week and last week. Seriously feel for the Furlongs today, I would be fuming if I had to listen to the accused testimony today. I know it's a legal case ongoing and I'm seriously biting my tongue here with what I want to say about that creature.
Hope the Japanese justice system will not let them down.

My thoughts exactly, fair play to Nicola's family for holding their reserve. Not sure I could have.

Please don't say what you feel, hard not to I know, but this is an R.I.P. thread

    Travel safely Nicola

Unlike a lot of countries in the West, in Japan you are guilty until you can prove your innocence.
Japan is a very modern country and forward thinking in a lot of ways.
Not so when it comes to the law.
They can hold you for weeks without even charging you.
It is quite archaic and if you get arrested in Japan, expect the worst.
I would be very shocked if that guy doesn't get a hefty sentence.
Prison for gaijin in Japan is not fun.

Good. Exactly what he deserves. I agree 100% with Nicola's sister what she said. A life for a life.

Just my opinion but getting full justice for Nicola Furlong would be the greatest respect to her family and her life.

Well maybe start another thread about discussing aspects of the case if you so wish?
