    Aunt Jennifers Tigers

    Development
    Bright colours - 'topaz' and 'green'
    's' sounds with sibilance in the first two lines.
    Men should be feared but tigers don't fear.
    The tigers have honour, 'chivalric','courteous' and 'honour'.
    Aunt Jennifer is old and weak, 'ivory needle hard to pull'.
    Bound to husband by marriage, 'wedding band'.
    Plosive sounds emphasise this (b,d,p letters)
    Aunt Jennifer had a hard life.

    Themes

    - Men

    The biggest theme of this poem is 'domination'. The poet feels that Aunt Jennifer was totally dominated by her husband throughout her life. The picture of the wedding is used to show this. 'The massive weight of Uncle's wedding band'. In the last stanza, she says, 'still ringed by the ordeals she was mastered by'.

    Language
    Alliteration Many 's' sounds.
    Imagery The image of the 'wedding band' is used to describe how Aunt Jennifer was dominated by her husband.
    Rhyming 'screen' and 'green'
