A soundbar is not suitable in your case,it's used when no amp or surround speakers are present.. A good centre does make a big difference especially if you watch a lot of movies..
200 would get you a good centre.. Easily

i used a marantz home cinema amp with 2 large floorstanding speakers, a sub and 2 small rear speakers and it worked very well i recently bought a good quality center speaker , id does not make a massive difference, you amp will send the center speaker chanell to the front left and right if you get a center that doe not match the front left and right it might sound worse than now

That's not really a good example. Most "out of the box" speaker systems like that are not designed to have additional speakers added.

Where you're using separates, an amp and speakers, the amp is designed to power a centre speaker. A good centre will focus the dialogue,as spreading it across left and right fronts is far from ideal. I've found it quite difficult to get a centre speaker to blend in so expect a bit of "trial & error"

i was not talking about an out of the box system, marantz sr 4300 , tdl studio 20 transmission line spekers, jamo rears, mj acoustic reference subwoofer added b&w htm 62 center speaker recently also upgraded amp to denon 2311 , but i still say a system can sound very good without a center, if the other speakers are good full range speakers

Sorry, I read "a marantz home cinema amp with 2 large floorstanding speakers, a sub and 2 small rear speakers" as being all Marantz.

As I say try a few centres if you can. I tried B&W, Castle and finally settled on a System Audio. When it works it makes a huge difference.

I did find the B&W centre too "shouty" but then I find many B&W speakers to be a little unsubtle.

dont know what you mean by shouty ,you can always lower the volume level to each channel, i bought the b& w secondhand i found the tone a bit disappointing, a bit nasal but i have gotten used to it now, ya i think b& w are overrated for the cost of new ones

harsh brittle treble that's too hard to listen to for any length of time. Adjusting the volume won't cure that. My fronts are big B&W floorstanders and while I wouldn't use them for music they have good impact for movies. The treble on these is a bit more subdued.

Much goodness here, and WAY cheaper than Ireland or UK
Www.tsnversand.de they ship to Ireland for €25, used them before, very good service.
