Giant Escape RX2

I am in the process of buying a bike on the cycle to work scheme. I have looked at several and am most interested in the Giant Escape RX2 at my budget.

The background is that I do use a bike for a runabout and live on rough rural roads. With this in mind I don't want a racing bike. I have been asked to do the IHCPT charity cycle from Cherbourg to Lourdes next Easter and think I will do it. Will this bike suit both tasks? I know this seems an ambitious target but I am fit enough. I play senior hurling for my local club and on top of this training I am averaging about 35 miles per week running.

Last week I skipped the running and wet cycling instead. I did a 10 mile, a 14 mile and a 22 mile. Besides the saddle soreness I felt fine. I did this cycling on the brothers TREK 7200 or 7600 (not sure of the number) hybrid.

Bottom line, will the Giant Escape suit my needs?

Yeah it will although if the presence of rough rural roads is the only thing putting you off a proper road bike I would reconsider. Nothing wrong with a road bike on bad roads in my experience.

Other than that it's a grand yoke from a reputable brand. Just make sure you're getting a it for a decent price.

Cheers Tony. What would be a decent price? I have been quoted €750.
