Re-spraying an electric guitar + Colour Suggestions

Hey guys. I'm new here but i felt a need to post this thread and I hope somebody can help me out a little. I recently bought a second hand Jackson Randy Rhoads guitar. It's a discontinued model called the RX10D. I suppose you could say it's an intermediate/mid-range guitar with its "Duncan designed" pickups and its Jackson Floyd Rose bridge. Anyway, i bought it for 150 euro which i felt was a bargain as i saw it for sale on other websites for 250 to almost even 300 euro. When i got it, it was set up terribly but i fixed that in about two days and it sounds awesome. Take a look at "PICT0070.jpg " to see the guitar. (The images are attached below)

Anyway, When i got the guitar i noticed that the corners were pretty scratched up like most second hand Randy Rhoads' are. There are a few tiny scratches on the body from picking and a few tiny scratches on the back of the guitar and the back plates probably from belt buckles or buttons or whatever. Just the usual thing for a second hand guitar.

However, after only a few weeks, my older brother managed to knock the guitar (I left it leaning against the couch in my sitting room) and it left a pretty large chip in one of the corners. Thankfully, I was able to glue the piece of wood that came off back onto the guitar with some wood glue. A line all around the area where it came off is still visible though. See "PICT0074.JPG." (I'm sorry that it's a bit blurry but my camera isn't the best)

So i have decided that i want to give the guitar a new paint job. I was thinking two colours, one main colour on the body and then a strip of a secondary colour around the body. There's a kind of a ridge or a chamfer type thing on the edges all around the body that i would like to give the secondary colour. See PICT0076.jpg and PICT0077.jpg. The finished version would be a two tone guitar like this,

    Here's the problem, i'm not entirely sure on how to go about painting it. As far as i know, you'd do it sort of like this;
    1. take all hardware/electrics out
    2. Sand the guitar down to its natural wood colour
    3. Spray it with a base coat all around first such as white.
    2. Spray your secondary colour all around the edges, not caring if paint is Sprayed on the rest of the body.
    3. Get some sort of special tape and cover the little ridges and spray the rest of the body the primary colour.
    4. Lastly put on the lacquer. I'd probably like a glossy finish.
    5. Put the rest of the hardware/electrics back in.

I was thinking i could hang the guitar up with wire through the screw holes where the neck plate goes into the guitar and spray it in my garage.

Can somebody tell me which kind of paints and which kind of lacquer i need, also any other materials necessary?
Can someone tell me the best way to do this within a tight enough budget?
Lastly can someone give suggestions as to what colours i should paint it?

On a side note, it seems that the neck has been sanded and that the finish has been completely taken off. as you can see in PICT0078.jpg, dirt/smudges builds up easily. Could I just take the neck off, clean it and put on a light satin coat? Which would be the best/cheapest product to use?

Sorry for the incredibly long thread but any feedback would be appreciated! :)

    your process sounds good.

car spray is good and available in many colours.

when spraying avoid drips by putting on about half as much on each coat as you think you need!

and for hanging it I us the paint can hooks that painters use to hols a can of paint up a ladder.....

Thanks Martin. I don't know much about cars..... Or paint for cars. How much would a can go for?

I picked up a bunch of cans of Pearescent paint in Halfords a few months ago for 9€ a tin. Solid colors would probably go for a bit less.

one can of primer, one can of black gloss.

Of course there are other options......

sorry this isn't too detailed, it was a while ago and the green strat has long since gone........

the green one (3 split H/Bs, one piezo bridge, 3 volumes with push on push off split switches, one master tone and a volume for the piezo.......) was brushed with hammerite......

    the other is Bill.....

2 split Dimarzio PAF pros..... and now a piezo bridge too.....

and yes, those are dollar bills under a clear lacquer.....

Very Nice. So would i put primer on instead of a white base coat?
